Queen Anne Federation Mansion

"One of Mosman's Finest Residential Estates"
News:
The TV money man has finally offloaded his Mosman mansion, Torrington.
The Mosman mansion Torrington has sold, lining the pockets of financial adviser Paul Clitheroe and his wife Vicki with more than $8 million.
The couple listed their grand Federation residence in Clifton Gardens in 2010 and again in 2011 for $8 million-plus after they had finished renovating a waterfront home they bought in a neighbouring suburb in 2007. The regular media commentator on all things financial paid $3.6 million for it in 1997. Records show it was rented out in 2012 for $4500 a week.
No agent has stepped forward to take credit for the sale, but LJ Hooker Mosman duo Geoff Smith and Richard Harding are likely candidates, given they have long been the property's sole listing agents.[1]

  • It last sold to the Paris-based O’Brien family for $3.25 million in 1999 when they became its fourth owner.

    19286293_01_x.jpg
  • The residence was part of the 1.1-hectare estate sold for $11 million in 1996 by Pioneer Concrete founder Sir Tristan Antico. It was where Sir Tristan and Lady Antico raised their seven children.
    19286293_05_x.jpg
  • Antico, who died at 81 in 2005, arrived at Sydney's overseas terminal in 1930, aged seven, with just three words of English – "yes, no and toilet". He swam, well into his 70s, each morning at Balmoral Beach, just below Tregoyd. It was his love of horses – through Bernborough Breeding and Racing Ltd – that bought him fiscal problems when in the early 1990s horse prices dropped by 50% or more. His personal losses were considerable so in 1991 he sold almost all of his Pioneer shares but remained in the honorary capacity of president until the Pioneer he had built in 1950 with a few wheelbarrows and shovels and an Oldsmobile was consumed by Lord Hanson's group in 2000 for around $4 billion.
    19286293_07_x.jpg
  • 'In July 1991 he sold almost all of his Pioneer shares, raising $4.7 million. In 1994 Sotheby's disposed of his Sickerts and a dozen Australian paintings. In December 1997 he sold Tregoyd. Finally, in July 1999, the retail entrepreneur Gerry Harvey bought his beloved Baramul and Oakleigh studs.'
    19286293_21_x.jpg
  • The National Trust-listed mansion was built for Sir William Cullen, the Chief Justice of NSW. Author Ethel Turner, of Seven Little Australians fame, spent much of her time at Tregoyd visiting Lady Cullen and finding inspiration in the gardens and views overlooking Balmoral Beach.19286293_02_x.jpg
  • Tregoyd's second owner was Mosman Daily newspaper founder Arthur Walker, who bought the Raglan Street property in 1917. Walker sold to Sir Tristan and Lady Antico for £11,000 in 1953.
  • The 120-year-old residence sits on a 2,800-square-metre curtilage.
    19286293_20_x.jpg
  • The townhouse project was undertaken by the Malaysian-backed Dealruby group, known for its $180 million high-rise apartment towers at Moore Park Gardens in South Dowling Street, Redfern.
    19286293_26_x.jpg
  • It’s listed through Ray White Neutral Bay/Mosman leasing agent Nick Yates.
  • Features
-Chef's kitchen with breakfast bar, opening onto casual living and dining
